New Marketer Advice
The marketing field can be a very exciting industry to step into. There are so many avenues in which one can enter, like social media marketing, public relations, or television ads. Taking a step into such a career does, however, require careful consideration of ethical practices.
Within an integrated marketing campaign, it is important to keep in mind all the ethical standards set by the industry and the American Marketing Association. Specifically, it is imperative to place honesty and transparency in high regard. No consumers want to be lied to, taken advantage of, or have anything hidden from them. Going against this ethical rule can be dangerous for consumers socially and physically. For example, imagine if a pizza company hid or lied about its ingredients. A customer with an extreme allergy could be exposed to a life-threatening situation if they have an allergic reaction to the product. The company would absolutely be responsible for any damages caused, due to their lack of transparency and negligence. Thus creating a social and financial liability for the company.
Best practices, according to the A.M.A., also include being fair, responsible, and respectful. These values should always be at the core of marketing activities, but also normal human interactions. As long as we consider the golden rule, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you", we can always decipher what actions would be appropriate, and which ones would not be.
